First Aid Kit

It a good idea to put together a first aid kit for your puppy/dog, put in a container clearly marked "DOG FIRST AID KIT" it's also a good idea to write your vet's phone number clearly on the lid, in an emergrency or panic situation it can save precious time.

The kit should contain:

  • A pair of scissors (rounded ends ones are best)
  • Adhesive Tape to hold or fasten bandages or pads.
  • A pair of tights can be handy to keep bandages on a leg or muzzle a dog who may bite!
  • Bandages of varying sizes (adhesive horse bandages are excellent) but always make sure they are not applied to tightly.
  • Sterile dressing pads of varying sizes (do not use lint or cotton wool as fibres get stuck in the wound)
  • Antihistermine cream for allergic skin reaction to insects stings/bites etc
  • Sodium Bicarbonate (for bee stings)
  • Vinegar (for wasps stings)
  • Tweezers (to remove bee stings or splinters)
  • Plastic latex gloves to protect yourself and your dog against infection
  • A notebook and pen is also a good idea to make notes of a dogs condition
  • An eye bath & some obtrex or sterile water (handy to wash away grass seeds etc)
  • A small kit would also be handy to take in the car or out on walks - you never know when you will need it!
